The young Vietnam War veteran Abraham Kieros was selected by the Apocalypse to become Knight War. Paralyzed from the neck down he waited for death, but Apocalypse saw strength in the former soldier and restored his health in exchange for servitude. And War willingly accepted, and became the most confident of the Knights of the Apocalypse.
