So I was going through my customs folder (where I keep all my pics taken) and whilst planning to retake several photo's notibly for Kili and Bolg with either some updated changes or just to improve photo's, I found this lil gem I completely forgot about. Here's a custom of Legolas from the Hobbit in his first costume. Originally I jsut changed the skirt part to green and Silver material, but then I also extended his legs (swapping them out with Toybiz ones) added the sheaths (cut off any Two Towers Legolas), strung the bow and did bits of repainting. I also have my fellowsip Legolas figure for comparison as you can see he has Orcrist as essentially when he leaves Mirkwood he is wearing very similar gear to his Fellowship costume, so I just took the Two Towers Legolas' sword sheaths belt and added Orcrist to it so he can confiscate it then return it to Thorin as it goes in the film, which is almost as close as Thranduil placing Orcrist on Thorin after he dies as I seem to remember that from the book. I will not that all the Legolas figures are too tall by Toybiz as he is the same height as Aragorn so what I suggest you do (as I have done but possibly not enough) is use hot water to pop out the swivel at the boot joint, take a knife and slice off a section above the peg joint (not just the peg, you'll want a bit of leg so it ends up looking like a flat plunger so it doesn't snap etc). Then sand or cut off a bit below the knee hinge and finally glue the part you cut off back. Essentially what you are going is making hte area between the boot swivel and the knee joint shorter and it makes him a better scale, I highly recomend this method. Anyway, this Legolas is simple but effective, I didn't swap the boots out I jsut painted the Toybiz ones brown with the gold decorations and I also swapped out his hands with some Toybiz legolas hands (again using heat and possibly swapping the pegs in the same way as leg shortening) as they hold the weapns better and are a better size unlike his freakishly small hands which I then used on my Bofur custom.

So yeah this is a better version than the one we got as he needed sheaths, a bow string, to be taller, be able to hold his weapoons and move his legs not hindered by plastic skirts.

Nice job modding Legolas to get better movement and height. I like the Hobbit Legolas figure but the articulation is so limited. I did something a bit similar by turning a Hobbit Legolas into an LOTR version. I changed out the boots in the same basic way you did. Great job overall!!

I've seen pictures online of all the parts pulled apart which is bizarre lol. I don't get why they didn't think "oh fans of lotr will be buying the six inch scale hobbit figures so we should scale them the same" because instead just Thorin and Bilbo are the only ones at the right height in scale with the toybiz line. Tauriel is shorter than Legolas obviously but as an elf she can't be super short either, I imagine if I get a radagast I will have to increase his height and their Gandalf was appalling. If you look at my fellowship custom that Gandalf head is the best one to use as it looks like Ian mckellen as Gandalf. This Legolas originally I just changed the skirt but adding the sheaths and bowstring seemed super needed etc then the height. Did you post yours on here or is it just something you didn't upload coz
I swear I have loads of paint jobs or minor customisation that I'm like nah no point xD

haha. You probably saw my pics of a pulled-apart Legolas and Thorin. I took them when the figures first came out to help out other customizers. I didn't post my Legolas here because it was a while back and I was only posting occasionally here. I have tons of figures I never posted to figurerealm. I was mostly on thefwoosh or on my own facebook page (grinmankey's customs) back then. I didn't like the height of the LOTR Elf figures. They were too far out of scale. I like the scale (mostly) of the TBD figures, but the articulation isn't great. There was basically nobody but a couple of people doing Tolkien customs, so it was so nice to see a couple more of us out there.

Haha that's funny yeah probably saw that then back before my realm days I imagine when I was trying to figure out sizes. Yeah the elfs of LotR are a bit random scaled: All Legolas figures are too tall, Arwen is MASSIVE, but coronation Arwen is fine, Elrond doesn't bother me too much, Galadriels hands are weird and yeah the rest are just too tall I guess.
