This project began back when Sir Stanley shared his display and the ensuing conversation between Deaditor and he. I have been looking for a scale eagle to no avail so endeavored to make my own. To those who have not read the books, the eagles are the most misunderstood characters. They serve Manwë of the Valar ( Leader of the gods of middle earth ) and in turn Galadriel the High Elven Queen. He was on a errand for Galadriel when he found Gandalf imprissoned in the tower of Orthang ( not summond by a moth....though it was creative way to self-explain to the viewers how he came to find Gandalf in his time of need ) . The eagles are goodly creatures but on they own side ( like the ents ) They rarely involve themselves in the wars of men. They do love to hunt wargs and orcs if only to rob them of a meal ( like when they found Gandalf in a tree with Thorin and company ) They are fierce and strong fighters but are not made to carry loads for great distances ( which is why they did not fly Bilbo and the dwarves all the way to the lonely mountain ) The enemy was all too aware of the strength in the eagles and tried to counter that strength with the fell beasts ( wing mounts for the Nazgul ) and would have see them coming a mile away if they tried to bring Frodo and Samwise to Mount Doom. Small Nerf football. Tin foil. Foam sheets. Clay. Biconical Lego pieces. Glass eyes. Small gage wire wrapped in twisty ties and covered in latex as the feet. Real feathers. A trimmed down and sculpted over, G.I. Joe arm as the lower beak. ![]() |

Congrats on this ambitious project ! It surely took a hudge amount of time and work. It’s impressive, to see what the base was and what you‘ve made out of it. Really informative to read the description, too ! I did not know that much about the eagles and learned interesting facts about them. Thanks for that !
Again, CONGRATS !
Its our place to inform and entice new readers to cause....No one reads anymore unless its a tweet !!!lol !!!!
