So Stark Resilient and I, as we so often do, were discussing potential Iron Man related customs and figures Hasbro should or won't make. One that came up was Justin Hammer. I started doing some research into how I wanted to do him and discovered that it turns out Justin Hammer was inspired by the late Peter Cushing. I then got to wondering when/if Star Wars: The Black Series had made Cushing's character yet, and it turns out, luckily they were, but I would have to wait about 6 months, as this idea hit me in about October or so. I originally wanted to go for his usual smoking jacket with ascot look, but, as it turns out, even with heat I couldn't get the suit body jacket to stretch as I needed it to to cover the ascot, so that idea was out. I went back to the drawing board, researching another look for Hammer that I could pull off well and I finally came across his "Iron Man: The Animated Series" look. Fortunately, I could see Hammer wearing this to board meetings, so it worked for me. I had bought quite a few extra Chameleon figures a few years ago and the blue color of his suit was perfect for this look. Recipe: Head, hands: Star Wars: The Black Series Tarkin Chest (above the ab crunch): Agent Coulson Cigarette holder: 'Mattel's 66 Penguin (with some fuzz for the smoke) Everything else: Chameleon I had some parts left over from my movie Logan custom, and was able to transfer the upper half of the chest above the ab crunch over pretty easily; it was a simple boil and pop. The neck ball peg of the Coulson body fit the Tarkin head with a little heat, and I thus didn't have to alter the head to fit at all. I applied and heated the forearms and switched in the Tarkin hands since the skin tone matched the head and the right hand makes for some nice, expressive poses. I painted the lover abs of the Chameleon's shirt white, his tie red, and I also painted a handkerchief for his pocket to match the color of his tie. I applied Modpodge to the painted areas to lose any shine and glued all of the pieces back together. I let him borrow my custom Red Skull's cigarette holder for the pics. Now I have one of Iron Man's greatest enemies in plastic form (from the first much loved Michelinie/Layton run on the book), and I'm very happy to have him. ![]() |
