Frustration with the (lack of) availability of a BB-8 in the 3.75” scale, I decided to get creative. Ordered this keychain for $2 off eBay. Removed two screws in the back to get a look at the insides with intent to weight the bottom (it’s super top-heavy) but to my surprise there was a panel that pops off the bottom so he can sit flat. Removed the keychain and sanded down the button. Then just gave the whole thing a quick wash with a brown/black mixture and wiped it off, bringing out all the sculpted details. Then a brush-on acrylic for a semi-gloss finish. The base still pops on and off easily and can be secured with a quarter turn in either direction. Light still works but I removed a tiny speaker that made a horrible, non-Droidy noise. It’s a tiny bit out of scale but for $2 it’s a better option than buying a box-set or randos just for what essentially amounts to an accessory (BB-8). ![]() |
